physical touch
words of affirmation
quality time
acts of service
receiving gifts
this is a semi part-two of my previous post on communication with Allah سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ, but I was thinking about the love languages recently, as I saw them again in a post on social media. our love languages are how we feel appreciated and loved based on our life experiences and our personalities, and they’re also how we think others would like to be appreciated and loved too. thinking about this made me think about and relate them with my relationship with Allah سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ, as, after all, we all have a relationship with Him too, and it is our most important relationship. then, it made me think, wonder and realise that maybe Allah communicates with us through our love languages!
think about it. if your love language is physical touch — does praying bring you a lot of joy? does physically being in sujood/prostration bring you a lot of peace and happiness, is that your way of being close to Allah?
what about words of affirmation? — do you feel like you get a lot of signs? do verses of the Qur’an bring you a lot of love and comfort when you need it? do you enjoy doing dhikr a lot and is that what makes you feel closest to Him?
and quality time? — do you like waking up for tahajjud and spending time with Him, talking to Him and worshipping Him when the world is asleep and it’s just you and Allah in the quiet? is that what makes you feel closest to Him?
or what about acts of service or receiving gifts? — do you receive true/religious/spiritual dreams from Him, does He answer a lot of your prayers quickly and that’s your acknowledgement that He is there, loves you, that you can trust Him? do you like to fast a lot and that’s what strengthens your relationship with Him and brings you closer? does giving charity strengthen your bond? does He gift you with things or people that you know in your heart is directly from Him for a specific reason?
etc.
think about the ways you’re close to Allah, what your relationship with Him consists of, what draws you closer to Him, what are the things that are just you and Allah’s, what brings you greater love for Him — what category do those things fall under? and is that category your love language? :) it’s so interesting. different things bring each of us happiness and peace in various ways. where waking up for tahajjud makes someone extremely peaceful and happy, reciting the Qur’an does the same for another person more. maybe it’s because He knows what makes us feel loved, so he instils pleasure in whatever it is as a way of communicating with us and loving us.
our love languages are also the ways we love others as well, and, while reflecting on my own relationship with Allah سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ, I realised that the things I do for Him and the way I love Him indeed correlate with and are based on my own love languages. for example, I love doing dhikr so much, it’s my favourite thing to do. dhikr is words of affirmation :) so I’m giving Him words of affirmation as a way of saying I love you Allah. I love sitting down on my prayer mat in the morning as the sun slowly rises and time seems to go incredibly slowly (but in the best way possible), and I get to spend time with Allah, do dhikr and read and recite His words from the Holy Qur’an—which also falls under quality time, another one of mine.
that’s all I really wanted to say. I love the fact that we all have such beautiful relationships with our Lord in many different ways, all tailored to how we are as humans. subhanallah. it really is so beautiful. He really does communicate with us. all the time. He speaks our love languages, He knows what’s best for us. alhamdulillah :)
remember that you can always reply to these emails or leave a comment, I would love to hear what your own reflections are, what you think and whether or not you agree with my little theory!

Attribute of the Month — an-Nur:
I thought i’d share one of the affirmations followed by a dua I say to myself every morning. say it aloud (what I do!) or in your head. either way, truly believe it when you say it.
Allah is the light, An-Nur, at the end of the tunnel, He’s my final destination after a scary, hard travel but His light shows me the way and makes me less scared. Allah is my guide, He is guiding me to the right path, He is guiding me to Him.
O Allah, place within my heart light, and upon my tongue light, and within my ears light, and within my eyes light, and place behind me light and in front of me light and above me light and beneath me light. O Allah, bestow upon me light. Ameen.
have a blessed day/night!

Subhanallah! I’ve read up on love languages before and really stand by it for healthy relationships but I’d never thought to link it with my relationship to Allah. Thank you for the wonderful insight!
